All her life, she’s struggled with her weight.
All my life, I’ve struggled with my weight.
She’s lost weight numerous times on numerous programs, but it always came back.
I’ve lost weight numerous times on numerous programs, but it always came back.
Then one day, on an episode of Super Soul Sunday, Suzy Cameron told Oprah the simple truth.
Then one day, I watched the episode of Super Soul Sunday, where Suzy Cameron told Oprah the simple truth.
The simple truth Suzy Cameron, married to James, told Oprah was this: Being healthy is as simple as eating whole, plant-based foods and eliminating oils, ultra-processed crap, refined crap, and animal proteins. A diet of vegetables and mushrooms, fruits and berries, beans and legumes, seeds and nuts, and some minimally processed things in moderation like plant-based milks, tofu, tempeh, and tamari, with a little maple syrup, raw sugar, and/or agave nectar for extra sweetening, is the optimal human diet.
When she heard the truth, Oprah’s reaction was — Well, to be fair, I don’t know what it was. All I know is she’s still selling Weight Watchers to her followers, even now that she knows there’s a better way.
When I heard the truth, my reaction was to empty my cupboards, empty my fridge, and change my entire life. My reaction was also to get furious that I’d been lied to for profit for my first 59 or so years (I was a lifetime member of WW at one time. Oprah’s fortune includes a lot of my money) and to start shouting the truth from the rooftops while educating myself further.
Oprah has now added a special membership level to her WW; one just for folks taking Ozempic or Wegovy for weight loss, which she is now taking herself because her company, Weight Watchers, which raked in $311 million in a single quarter in 2021, apparently didn’t work for her. Because if it did work for her, she wouldn’t be taking toxic drugs.
All 4.9 million Weight Watchers subscribers believe Oprah is telling them the truth. That WW and now WW just for folks on magic prescriptions, is the way to get healthy.
THAT’S NOT HEALTH.
Here’s some truth for you:
Semaglutide—the active ingredient in Ozempic and Wegovy, has numerous known side effects, even though it’s very new and few studies have been done. More side effects will become apparent soon, now that millions are taking the meds like a magic weight loss pill.

It can also lower your grocery bill.
I watched the episode where Suzy Cameron told Oprah all this. The episode changed my life! I don’t know how it did not change Oprah’s.
But then again, maybe Oprah doesn’t really know all this. Because you can’t really know anything until you’ve experienced it for yourself. You can hear it, read it, see it on TV, but you don’t know it until you’ve lived it. And to be fair, Suzy was only encouraging a meatless day a week to get people started. Still, when you know better, you’re supposed to do better.
So I’d like to challenge Oprah and everyone else out there to take a look again at the listed side effects of each of the weight loss approaches above, and maybe try the less deadly one first. And then if that doesn’t work (it totally will) you can move on to expensive prescription poisons. Mkay?

*A note about labels: Not all “plant-based” or “vegan” cookbooks, recipes, or food products are whole food plant-based. Most of the recipes, websites, processed foods, cookbooks, and blogs labeled “plant-based” include refined oils, refined sugars and processed ingredients that are NOT included in a whole food plant-basted diet.
I have some things up my sleeve, but I don’t want to get overcommitted with my college classes beginning next month, so we’ll see what I can manage.
But start here, and join me in January for a month of actually DOING THIS so you can EXPERIENCE it. And then you’ll get the message that Oprah missed when it was sitting right in front of her.
All you need to do is eat real plant food.
Not olive oil, whole olives.
Not soy protein isolate, soy beans.
Not wheat gluten, whole wheat.
Not pea protein, peas.
Not corn syrup, corn.
More almonds than almond milk.
More beans than tofu.
Peanut butter that’s made from only peanuts, no added oils, no salt.
See the pattern?
Okay you get started prepping for your January of Renewal, and I’ll have more for you soon.
Blessed Winter Solstice and Merry whatever you celebrate at this time of year.
