I was writing a novel that I've set aside. Through learning from my online writing community (Scribophile.com), it seems that independent authors primarily use Amazon's proprietary ISBN vs. the author purchasing their own via Bowker. Is this the process backlisted authors face when they reclaim their works and then republish them? Are you and Christine purchasing your proprietary ISBNs for each work or are you using Amazon's ISBNs?
Hi, Night Owl! I used to get new ISBNs for each title from Bowker. I would wait until there was a sale and then buy a bunch of them at once. (111 titles, so I needed them.) But after 8 or so years indie, I contracted with publisher Oliver Heber Books, so I no longer have to worry about ISBNs.
If you are publishing strictly with Amazon, such as in KU, then use their proprietary ISBNs. It's not a problem. If you are publishing widely, and hope to hit a major bestseller list, you will want the same ISBN on your book at Amazon, BN, Kobo, Google Play, Apple Books, and anywhere else it's sold, because they count sales by ISBN. So you want them all counted together.
That said, this publication is mostly about food. My blog about my books it at MaggieShayne.com/blog. Though it's more reader-centered than writer-centered.
Maggie, I just discovered your publication.

Thank you!
Wow, my reply was full of typos. I found the edit button.
Grateful for the Edit button myself, Lol!
Re: Food - I'm reading about the new produce wax coating, Apeel. Initial reads on food journals are a bit disconcerting. Need to study more.
Yikes. Why can't they stop trying to fix what isn't broken? Fruit already has peels, provided by nature.
